Okay, so for anyone that remembers me saying that if the posts for these^ got enough likes that I would write a modern day Merlin AU where Gwaine comes back, well I give you the good news that I have started writing it and hopefully after finals are over I can work on it a little more. This is just the beginning, comment so I can make changes now!
“To Find What You Are Looking For”
Fog settled atop the lake. The water rippled against the wind and a familiar feeling came upon the old, long white bearded man who sat at the water’s edge. He held all the ages of the world in his tired blue eyes, but today he felt younger. Like the many ages he spent waiting were beginning to melt off of him. He had never felt this way before. Not in over a thousand years.
He had been waiting so long to feel something again. To feel like things were about to change. He had lived through so many wars and catastrophes, but this was the first time that he thought all of his wishes would come true… that Arthur would finally return.
Merlin looked out at the water, but the entire lake had gone as still as stone. There was not a ripple on the water’s surface. A cold breeze chilled him right to the bone but the lake stood still. He peered deeper out into the water, looking for some sign of movement from below the surface. He glanced down the water’s edge. Down a ways he could see something lying on the rocky beach. The water began to move again.
He scuffled his things and hurried down the shoreline. The sun came peeking out of the clouds and beamed off of the silver armor. The man lay face down in the dirt, brown hair wet and tousled around his head. Merlin didn’t understand. He rolled the body over, “Gwaine?”
Merlin looked him over, he was still breathing. The knight looked the same as when Merlin last saw him all those years ago. He couldn’t understand how this was possible. He hadn’t been there when his friend died. He only remembered Percival, and what was left of him. Merlin thought that it must have been a joke at first when they said that Gwaine was dead. He was the strength to his magic, he thought that Gwaine could survive anything. He wasn’t supposed to die that day.
Percival was never the same after Gwaine died in his arms. He knew that his best friend hadn’t failed, but he died thinking he had. The strangest part of Gwaine laying before him now, was that Percival said that he put Gwaine on a pyre when he died. It wasn’t like Arthur, how could he be here now?
